Amy Hein, PhD, Deputy Project Director with Ripple Effect Communications, brings 15 years of scientific experience managing complex federal projects involving biomedical research, education, and health policy. Amy received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Psychology from the University of Colorado in 2009. Between 2009 and 2012, Amy worked in a number of scientific and policy positions, with the National Academies of Science, NASA, and the American Psychological Association, including key work on a Congressionally-requested study to assess U.S. higher education. In 2011, Amy secured a competitive AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship at the NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke (NINDS), where she spearheaded a strategic planning effort resulting in a report to NASA on radiation risk to the brain during spaceflight. In 2012, Amy became an Advisory Scientist with Strategic Analysis, Inc., where she supported the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) on a range of cutting-edge biomedical research projects, successfully managing project scope, schedule, budget, risk, and deliverables. Amy worked with government, military, and commercial partners to transition successful programs for advanced development and commercial use, handling FDA and IP issues. In 2015, Amy joined Ripple Effect, providing scientific support to the Army’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program where she managed more than $100M in medical research projects, including a high-visibility joint agency project to assess concussion across 30 research sites. In 2016, Amy transitioned to her current role as Project Director at Ripple Effect overseeing projects in excess of $5M per year and over 25 people with diverse responsibilities.
